What is the Circular Economy? Our current economic system is based on the consumption of finite resources that creates waste. A circular economy actively seeks way to design out waste and pollution, keep products and materials in use, and regenerate natural environments. This approach works at a global as well as a local level. The circular economy redefines growth balancing economic benefits with social and economic benefits.

Lifecycle Assessments

What is a Lifecycle Assessment? LCA's look at emissions from all phases of a products lifespan: extraction, transportation, manufacturing, and disposal. This provides a total carbon footprint for products and materials. Materials like wood and fiber are renewable, recyclable, and store carbon. When we choose natural, renewable, plant-based materials we turn carbon and climate problems, into climate solutions!

Deforestation

Deforestation is the permanent conversion of forest to another use (e.g. agriculture, development, etc.). Globally, it is a major contributor to climate change as there are less trees and fewer forests to absorb and sequester carbon. Fortunately, deforestation is not a problem in North America. Thanks to sustainable forestry and forest management choices focused on long-term forest health, we grow, harvest, and regrow forests on a never-ending cycle.

Circular Economy & Forest Products

The circular economy happens in two cycles: the biological and the technical. Bio-based materials like wood, pulp, food, and cotton are consumed and then fed back into the system through process like composting. Technical cycles are where products and materials are restored and recovered through reuse, repair, or (in the last resort) recycling. Forest products work in both cycles to help us design waste our of our economic system and regenerate and restore natural environments.
